Honors College Fall Convocation

On Tuesday, October 13, at 6pm join the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the Ford Center, where we'll welcome keynote speaker Shannon Cohn to the stage for our Honors Fall Convocation. The event is free and open to all. Shannon Cohn is a filmmaker, lawyer and social impact producer who grew up in a small town in Mississippi. Before becoming a filmmaker, she practiced international law and was part of the team that prosecuted Enron Corp. in the largest white-collar crime investigation in FBI history. She later sold everything she owned and spent six months hitchhiking on boats around the world to make her first documentary series, Sea Nation, which aired on National Geographic. Her latest film, Below the Belt, available on Amazon and Apple TV and executive produced by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rosario Dawson, has screened at more than 40 U.S. medical schools, across the NIH’s 27 Institutes for its 20,000+ employees, and on Capitol Hill for members of Congress at a screening co-hosted by Senators Elizabeth Warren and Mitt Romney. Her films have aired on PBS, National Geographic, Apple TV, Amazon and Netflix globally. Shannon has appeared on Good Morning America, The View and PBS NewsHour, and has spoken on women’s health and social impact storytelling at the United Nations, World Economic Forum, Clinton Global Initiative, Gates Foundation, Google, Microsoft and more.
